George Heartwell, Mayor of Grand Rapids, Haris Alibasic, Office of Energy and Sustainability, and Michele Buckler, FTCH, will present on Sustainability and Stewardship –An Energy Strategy for Grand Rapids. In 2009, the City completed its first Energy Efficiency and Conservation Strategy through funding from the federal Energy Efficiency Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) program. Through the guidance of the strategy, further EECBF funding, and other improvements, the City of Grand Rapids is accomplishing a number of impressive upgrades that will greatly increase the energy efficiency of the City’s facilities, with significant energy reduction, and greenhouse gas emission reduction. Opportunities for mutually beneficial collaboration with the business community will be explored.

15th Annual Wege Speaker Series

Featured speaker is Chris Palmer, internationally honored environmental film producer. His presentation will include clips from some of his celebrated wildlife films. Screen credits include producing environmental films for prime-time television, including the Disney Channel, TBS Superstation, Animal Planet, Home and Garden Television, The Travel Channel, The Outdoor Life Network and PBS. Palmer is currently Distinguished Film Producer in Residence and full-time faculty member at American University. This event is free and open to the public. An event organized by the Grand Haven Area Jaycees and the West Michigan Environmental Action Council and sponsored by the Grand Haven Community Foundation to remove trash and debris from the surrounding area while providing a hands-on learning experience to encourage people about preventive practices.
