Non-profit nominations are still being accepted through this week. Non-profit representatives will be our guests for lunch. Please contact
Lisa Locke, llocke@wmsbf.org, with your nominations or questions.

Visitor parking is available in front of the World Headquarters building. Alternate transportation strategies are encouraged. Contact Lisa Locke,

Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital, East Auditorium

What we eat profoundly impacts our health, the health of our communities and our environment. Obesity, diabetes, malnutrition, childhood cancer and other chronic diseases are the costly consequences of our current consumption patterns—costly in terms of human well-being and in health care expenditures.

Join area experts and national leaders in sustainable nutrition to learn practical ways for health care professionals to become leaders and advocates for a food system that promotes public and environmental health.
The cost to attend is $75 per person.
Sponsored by Spectrum Health, in partnership with Health Care Without Harm.

With questions, contact Josh Miller, coordinator, sustainability, Spectrum Health, at 616.391.5125, or Hillary Bisnett, program director, Healthy Food in Health Care, Ecology Center, at 734.369.9282. To register, visit

Resources

The Howard Christensen Nature Center in northern Kent County has an abundance of woodchips right now. We are willing to trade the wood chips to Groundswell schools or partners in exchange for volunteer services or other in-kind donation. There are several ways this trade could work.

1)      A school that needs woodchips for landscaping would not have to buy the woodchips, but could instead provide bussing of Groundswell students to HCNC for a work day (invasive plant removal, sign installation, etc.)

2)      Groundswell students could use the woodchips as part of their service-learning project and help with a HCNC fundraiser in exchange.

3)      A partner business/organization could use the woodchips for landscaping and provide HCNC with professional services (legal, marketing, technology, etc.) a volunteer workday or in-kind donation.

Or, make your own suggestion! We are open to your needs and ideas.

We need to eliminate some of our woodchip piles before the ground freezes, even if the volunteer work isn’t done until spring. (Our board is considering selling the woodchips to the public, but we’d prefer to make “a trade.”) Please contact Cindy Perski at 675-3158, or Kathy Reed at 887-1624 with questions, or to arrange pick-up.
