Monday, January 9, 2012 :: 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm Bunker Interpretive Center 1750 East Beltline, Grand Rapids (on the east side of East Beltline)
We hope you will join us for an inspirational start to the new year as we welcome Michael Nelson, co-editor of Moral Ground; Ethical Action for a Planet in Peril as our presenter. Michael is a professor of environmental ethics at Michigan State University. Moral Ground is a collection of testimonial essays from over 80 visionaries around the globe...theologians and religious leaders, naturalists, scientists, elected officials, business leaders, activists, and writers. Together they “present a compelling call to honor our individual and collective moral responsibility to the planet.” Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu offers the forward and Paul Hawkin the final essay. Calvin bookstore has arranged for books to be available for purchase following the meeting. In addition, we will be paying belated tribute to Ray Anderson who died in August. Mr. Anderson was founder of InterfaceFLOR, a pioneer in the sustainable business arena, and founder of MISSION ZERO, a radical strategy for leaving no environmental footprint. In order to reduce our environmental impact, please consider alternate transportation strategies. Contact Lisa Locke, llocke@wmsbf.org if you would like help in arranging carpooling. Limited parking is available in the circle in front of Bunker Interpretive Center and additional parking at Prince Conference Center to the south.
Space is limited. If you would like to attend this meeting, you must register by email at llocke@wmsbf.org by Thursday, January 5. Also, please help ensure an accurate headcount - and associated luncheon expenses - by notifying Lisa of cancellations no later than Friday morning, the 6th. Cost of attending is $10 for members. Beginning this month, cost to non-members will increase to $15.00. Payment may be made by cash or check at the event or by credit card in advance through the home page of our website, Monthly Meeting Payment on the left hand menu, www.wmsbf.org. A $1 additional processing charge is included for credit card payments.
